Every Monday night we have
Young Life at Meridian High. Every Monday night I come home exhausted. Every Monday night I come home with sore cheeks from laughing. Every Monday night I come home with a heart full of hope. Every Monday night I come home amazed at what God can do through this ministry.
Last night was especially encouraging, every year we do a "Senior Club". The seniors are in charge of everything from games, music, prizes and the message at the end of the night.
This group of seniors is particularly special to me because this is the first group that we have seen consistently since their freshman year! It's been so great to see them grow up, struggle, go to prom, and mostly grow in their faith. Some of them didn't know the Lord when they were freshman!
The message last night was so perfect for this group and really it encouraged me because I wish I was like this in high school. Isaac, who was one who didn't know the Lord, gave the message out of Romans. He didn't speak on just one passage, he quoted throughout the whole book but his main message was that we need to be
bold in our faith because of what Jesus did for us on the cross. Be
bold and don't let anything or anyone get in your way.
Romans 8:31-39
"What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God
is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave
him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all
things? Who will bring any charge
against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one
who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died —more than that, who was raised to
life —is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall
separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution
or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:
“For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered”
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through
him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither
angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither
height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate
us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
It was so humbling. This 17 year old guy is talking to a room of 20+ teenagers telling them to stop caring about what people think and to
boldly go and proclaim the Gospel. This is a kid who 4 years ago would have made fun of kids like him. God is crazy good at what he does!
I honestly can tell you that I wasn't too sure about Isaac when he was a freshman. He was one of those kids who could have taken a different path, but God had another plan for him!
It just goes to show that as a leader I just have to continue to pray and let God use me in whatever way He chooses. His plan will come together even without me!
